What better use for the new insulated reusable bags at Provisions than a trip to Governor’s Island on the free ferry from Fulton Ferry Landing in Dumbo? The ferry leaves every hour, every Saturday when there is programming scheduled for Governor’s Island. Bikes are allowed and the island has over five miles of car-free biking paths as well as expansive green lawns perfect for picnicking.
For the inaugural trip of the ferry yesterday, we packed our bag with a spinach, goat cheese, beet and pistachio salad, a Portly Gentleman sandwich, maple sheep’s milk yogurt and half a three-berry pie, all from Provisions. While the kids did crafts at tables sponsored by the Children’s Museum of Art and played hide and seek and tag, we relaxed at a picnic table with time to ourselves. Afterwards the kids climbed on a buoy and rang the bell and we stumbled upon a Jazz Age lawn party with people in period dress dancing the lindy hop to music from a live band. Just another day in NYC.
