Domaine J. Laurens 2008 Les Graimenous Cremant de Limoux

We were thrilled to be listed in the Wall Street Journal as one of “New York’s finest purveyors of red, white and sparkling wines.”  (All we can say is thank goodness that list “goes to 11!”) Our recommendations are what we’ll actually be drinking this holiday season, including Domaine J. Laurens 2008 Les Graimenous Cremant de Limoux ($17.50), Friedrich Becker Estate Pinot Noir 2008 ($21) and Domaine du Closel Savennieres ‘La Jalousie’ 2009 ($21.50).

Cheers and have a happy holiday!

Christmas Eve & Weekend Hours

Christmas eve the wine store will be open from 10 am to 7 pm and Provisions will be open from 8 am to 6pm.  Both stores are closed Saturday, December 25 for Christmas and Provisions will be closed December 26 but the wine store will be open the day after Christmas.

We wish you and yours a wonderful, peaceful holiday.

NY Times Best Sparkling Wines

We’re pretty excited to announce that we were able to get our hands on a few cases of the Philippe Foreau Vouvray Clos Naudin Brut NV ($24) selected as ‘Best of Tasting’ and ‘Best Value’ french sparkling in yesterday’s NY Times.  Described as “complex and distinctive with savory, toasty flavors and a touch of honey, yet dry and refreshing,” this will be a fun bottle to open for Christmas or New Year’s.

To reserve yours, call us at (718) 797-9463.

We also have the Parigot Cremant de Bourgogne Blanc de Blancs Brut NV ($22), which was #2 on the Times list (and a year in, year out favorite as it appeared as #3 on the Times’s list of value sparklers two years ago).  Tangy, balanced and refreshing, with dry, chalky, spicy flavors according to the Times.  If we have any left on December 29, we’ll open it at our annual “Bubbles that Don’t Blow” event where we uncork all our sparkling wines over the course of 2 days (bubblies under $25 on December 29 and champagnes on December 30).

Enjoy!

Local Spirits in the Local Paper (NY Times)

From Harvest Spirits distillery’s Cornelius Applejack and Core Vodka to King’s County Moonshine to Breuckelen Gin, we’ve got many of the local spirits mentioned in today’s New York Times.  These all make unusual, interesting gifts.  And if you were on our email list (sign up at the bottom of our website), you’d have gotten notices about tasting these cool new spirits earlier this month!

Pictured is Derek Grout, a frequent visitor to the store, on his apple farm/distillery in upstate New York.  Perhaps the best thing to happen to apples since pie.  To read the whole article on New York craft distilling, click here.
