I Love NYou

Celebrate your love for the local, with our I LOVE NY Valentine’s Day Package.

We start with our house made Bacon Jam, a low-and-slow cooked blend of  D’Artagnan’s Applewood Smoked Bacon, and Brooklyn’s own Olso Roasters Coffee. Its sweet and spicy flavors and unique texture make for a perfect condiment to most cheeses. Kinderhook Creek, made by Old Chatham in the Hudson Valley, is an all-sheep Camembert style, unctuous and decadent, sweet and just enough salt.

Because no Valentine’s Celebration is complete without chocolate, we’ve chosen the Nunu Chocolates Beer Box, a 6 pack of truffles blended with some of the best microbrews around. Wash it all down with our Borough’s own Brooklyn Brewery Local 2, a Belgian-style Strong Dark Ale, a touch sweet and malty, a dessert in and of itself. The 750ml bottle is big enough to share, nearly as strong as wine, and full of effervescent bubbles.

Mazet Chocolates Tasting

Celebrate this holiday season with one of the oldest and most famous candy confectioners in France.  Mazet is famous for their delectable pralines roasted in salted caramel and almonds and hazelnuts toasted, caramelized, and coated in dark bittersweet or milk chocolate, all of which we’re proud to carry at Provisions. Come by for a sample this Thursday, 12/15, noon-3pm at the coffee bar.

Autumn Arrives At Provisions!

Warm days, cool nights, crispy leaves paving the sidewalk – without a doubt, Fall has come upon Brooklyn. With the change in weather, expect to see lots of new seasonal items offered here at Provisions!

‘Tis the season of hot apple cider behind the coffee bar, and we’ve got Champlain Orchards’ fresh organic cider from Vermont pressed the old-fashioned way on a 90-year-old rack and cloth cider press. You can also bring home a squirrel or an acorn in the form of Amy’s Cookies, handmade with love right here in Brooklyn.

We’ve got Pumpkin Ravioli from Bertagni in the dairy case, as well as maple yogurt from Seven Star Farms and Maple Hill Creamery. Keep your eyes on the frozen section for one of our seasonal favorites in Adirondack Creamery’s Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream, sample any one of our many pumpkin beers from Six Point, Wolaver’s, Southern Tier and Lakefront Breweries, or stop by the deli for a cup of hot soup to warm those chilly bones.

As always, if you have items you’d like to see at the store, just drop us a line in our Customer Suggestion book by the front counter, and feel free to approach anyone of our knowledgeable staff members with your questions or thoughts. So grab your scarf and mittens, turn off your AC and swing through Provisions for all of your Autumn dining and entertaining needs!

Our new ShopKeep iPad POS!

We’re thrilled to announce our ShopKeep iPad POS, as reported by the Brooklyn Paper.  Turn your iPad into a point of sale, wirelessly popping the cash drawer and printing receipts.  And it provides real time reporting on sales via the web from any computer anywhere and even through an app on your phone!

Our technology is green(e), too.  No more local servers aging and headed for landfills.

If you want to come see the technology in action, stop by the new Greene Grape Annex at 680 Fulton, opening in August 2011 right next to Greenlight Bookstore.

Iced Iced Coffee

We’re entering a new era in the coffee bar with cold-brewed Stumptown coffee available now as our iced coffee.  Made from the Hairbender blend, which is our most popular Stumptown blend by the pound, cold-brewed iced coffee takes more time to make but the benefits in taste are worth it.

There are two ways to make iced coffee.  Brewing coffee in the regular manner and then pouring it over ice or cold brewing.  Pouring hot brewed coffee over ice can dilute the coffee and may produce bitter notes, which is why we switched to cold brew.  By cold brewing, we coarsely grind the best beans and soak them overnight.  This produces a strong coffee syrup full of flavor but without bitter notes that come from heating.  Try it, we think you’ll taste a world of difference.
