This Thursday 4/24 from 5p-7pm at Provisions we are proud to be hosting a collaborative tasting from Kelso Beer and Bee’s Knees Food Co. Some of you have probably had a taste of Kelso’s beers, brewed in Clinton Hill, at your local, well last year they starting canning their Pilsner and Nut Brown Lager, using a mobile canning truck. Bee’s Knees Food Co. is a Chicago based maker of roasted nuts designed as the perfect bar snack, these are nuts designed to be paired with beers, so much so that each package has beer pairing recommendations printed on them. Pop in and have a snack and a sip!

Need some inspiration? Start with our house made Pork Tonkotsu Broth or Chicken Broth, and then visit the butchers or our dairy cases for some proteins and eggs. Add in your favorite vegetables, and top it off with your favorite seeds and spices.

We’ll be getting a very limited amount of Challah* from ORWASHERS on Wednesday, ready to be dipped into luscious raw honey from PUMPKIN VILLAGE.

One of the myriad unique experiences about shopping at Greene Grape Provisions is the ability to purchase baby greens harvested literally hours ago – potentially even by the person standing in line behind you.
That’s right: we at the Greene Grape are fortunate enough to source our baby greens from The Brooklyn Grange, a rooftop Farm at the Navy Yard. When you can eat food grown by your neighbor, why would you eat anything else? Check them out – and also, check out this photo of some Greene Grapers taking a tour of the farm!
Long story short, a new generation of farmers (urban and otherwise) are dramatically changing the way we source our food here in the United States, and the Greenhorns have been in on the ground floor for quite some time. This Thursday night, please join us for a screening of their eponymous documentary, followed by a panel discussion – featuring participants from the Brooklyn Grange, Battery Urban Farm and the Fort Greene Park Conservancy Vegetable Garden. Completed after nearly three years in production, The Greenhorns explores the lives of America’s young farming community – its spirit, practices, and needs. It is the filmmaker’s hope that by broadcasting the stories and voices of these young farmers, we can build the case for those considering a career in agriculture – to embolden them, to entice them, and to recruit them into farming.

Did you know German movie theaters serve sweet kettle corn instead of our salted, buttered variety? With a kettle corn tasting at Provisions on Friday, we found some Austrian and German wines to pair. Join us Saturday night to sample:
Frank Etz Gruner Veltliner ’11 1L – This crisp, refreshing Gruner in a 1 Liter bottle is a fantastic value and a perennial staff favorite. Light, with bright notes of citrus and stone fruits.
Schmitts Kinder Silvaner ’11 – Made in Bavaria, in South East Germany, this wine is full-bodied with nice minerality, subtle spice and balanced acidity.
Weingut Schmitges Dry Riesling ’11 – A Classic style Riesling made in the Mosel, this wine boasts ripe peach, the slightest hint of sweetness and a thirst-quenching acidity on the finish to keep you wanting more. Good thing it comes in a liter!
Umathum Sankt Laurent ’10 – Made from the lesser known grape Sankt Laurent, this wine is akin to a Pinot Noir but with a funkier, more savory twist. Lighter in body, this red is silky with notes of spice and dark cherries.
Looking for a useful end for your Christmas trees? In partnership with the Department of Sanitation and GreeNYC, this is just a friendly reminder that tomorrow and Sunday, Fort Greene Park will be a chipping location for old trees as part of MulchFest 2013. Both days, Greene Grape Provisions will be serving free, hot cider at the Willoughby Ave entrance, from 10am to 2pm.
Bring your tree, get a cider, and head home for the post-holidays with a free bag of your own mulch! Or you can bring your tree to a drop-off site (see above link) tomorrow or Sunday. Leave your tree with them, and they’ll recycle it for you later!
Join us at the wine store tonight from 6-8pm as we welcome Tito’s Vodka to sample their Texan spirit straight and in Italian Ice cocktails using Prometheus Springs Lemon Ginger, a capsaicin-spiked elixir.
Italian Ice Cocktail
Ounce and a half Tito’s vodka
Half ounce simple syrup
Half ounce lime juice
Half ounce Limoncello
Two Ounces Prometheus Springs
Shake and pour over ice.
Enjoy with a slice of lime.
